Poulton celebrated another fantastic year of cricket with a great night at the Stratton House Hotel. Piethrower and the Rabbit Hunter walked off with the 1st XI honours, Vinni and Psycho Musty for the 2nd XI. Sunday honours were shared by Solly and Shirley, with George Cook as youth team player of the year. Piethrower also deservedly took the Clubman of the Year award in recognition of this and previous years of successful club captaincy. Special thanks also went to Sharpie & his angels for their fundraising efforts and also to Mrs Chapman for her support in all of Geoff's efforts with the new pavilion.
Club officers for the forthcoming year were voted in at the AGM. Piethrower stood down as 1st XI captain and will be replaced by Higgo, with Solly as vice. There were also changes in the personnel of the committee - for a full list see the Club Officers page.
Poulton 1st XI claimed the County League Division 4 title this weekend with a victory over Gloucester Civil Service. 12 consecutive wins following a first week loss ensured the boys will be in Division 3 next year.
Poulton 1st XI moved to the top of County League Division 4 this weekend with a 77-run victory over Oldlands. With Aston Ingham picking up only 1 point on Saturday, the lads know that their destiny is in their own hands. The 2nd XI should also be congratulated on 2 goods wins recently which have pushed them up to mid-table in Cirencester Division 3.
Poulton lost in the final of the Stroud & Swindon Building Society midweek cup with a 9-wicket defeat against a strong Cirencester side on Tuesday. Poulton batted first and scored 119 in 15 overs. Cirencester replied with 120-1 and hit the winning runs with an over to spare. Well done to all the lads involved for a successful cup run - let's try and win it next year!!
A full report of a fun, alcohol-inspired weekend will appear shortly when someone can remember exactly what happened after approximately 12.30am on the Saturday night.
The boys booked a place in the final of the BP midweek cup with a 9-wicket victory over Avening & Cherington in the semi-final on Thursday. We will now face Cirencester in the final on Tuesday 3rd July with a 6.30pm start (venue - the Park).
The boys have progressed through to the semi-finals of the (BP?) midweek cup after a convinicing win over Guiting Power on Tuesday. Nashie hit a 50 in the total of 166 in 15 overs and Solly and Shirley took 7 wickets between them in restricting the visitors to under 100.
After working solidly on the plans for the new pavilion for the last month, Geoff Chapman has been able to send the final proposal to the relevant parties including CDC, SWEET and Sports England and a favourable response is hoped for within the next 3 months.
The original decision to suspend the Gloucestershire County League due to the Foot and Mouth epidemic has been overturned and there will now be promotion and relegation as usual. The decision was taken at a League meeting on Monday 21st May and results will count from the first game of the season. No decision has yet been taken on behalf of the Cirencester and District League.
Due to the postponement of this weekends friendly at Ullenwood, a new Sunday friendly fixture has been set for Sunday 20th May at home to South Cerney. Thanks to Phil James in agreeing the match up - 'game on'!
There will be a practice night at the ground on WEDNESDAY 2ND MAY from 6.30pm onwards. This will be followed by a Player's Meeting at 8pm to discuss various cricketing matters and all players are asked to attend.
Correction!! The new pavilion is in the process of being approved by all parties concerned and once this is agreed, building work will hopefully begin around November. Apologies to Geoff for getting a little carried away before!
Nets have now finished for the year. Hopefully we may get a proper game of cricket in soon!
The club raised £185 after a much enjoyed skittles fundraiser at the Falcon. Congratulations to the girls once again for their organisation of the event. The Chairman won despite the best efforts of Micky Taylor to put him off with Pam Ayers winning the ladies competition.
Poulton Cricket Club was sad to learn of the passing away of Wilf Gilman at the end of March. Wilf had been Poulton's 1st team umpire since their entry into the County League and he was a real character who will be missed by everyone who knew him. Our sincere condolences go to Wilf's family.
The new pavilion has been approved by all concerned and building work should begin in September 2001.
Nets have started at Rendcomb College at go on until the start of the season. Sundays 3.30-5.30pm, £2. All players, old and new, are welcome to attend.
Congratulations go to Matt Coleman on making the final squad for Gloucestershire U-16's. Matt will attend a special training night every Monday as part of the selection process but he won't be happy as part of the fitness regime means he must keep off the McDonald's.
