After being put into bat Cricklade's opening batsmen got off to a solid
start. Poulton's early bowling restricted the opportunities to a minimum.
But in Steve Nash's 3rd over Roy pulled a massive 6 over square leg and
from this point dominated proceedings for the next 20 or so overs. As Poulton's
fielders scattered across the field Roy, just smashed the ball over their
heads and around them, scoring 11 x 6's and 12 x 4's on his way to a massive
146. Poulton's bowling attack never lost heart and attacked the other batsmen
whenever they could. Matt Coleman taking 2 valuable wickets. Wayne Tinson
eventually found the key to dismiss Roy, who was caught at mid-wicket by
Craig Musty. Once he was out, Johnny Gardiner closed off the Cricklade innings
taking 4 wickets but the 246 total turned out to be a good score.
In reply, Poulton stuttered early on losing 2 early wickets, but Neil Moss
and Matt Coleman steadied the innings and always kept the scoreboard ticking
over. Neil Moss looked impressive as he hit 7 x 4's on his way to his first
50 for the club and Matt Coleman looking assured in his 38. With this pair
at the wicket Poulton looked capable of running Cricklade close, but with
after they were out in successive overs the task seemed to slip away. Wayne
Tinson and Steve Nash did their best to keep things ticking along, but the
run rate was creeping up. Tinson treating the leg spinning Roy with disdain
as he clipped a ball off his legs for 4 and then flat batted another past
mid-on. Roy however had the last laugh deceiving Tinson who chipped the
ball up and was out for 16. This was effectively the end of Poulton's challenge
and Steve Nash was stumped as he became impatient to move the score along.
Poulton ended up 86 runs short, ruing a number of dropped catches from Roy.
