Match Report
Rodmarton after winning the toss found the going tough as Poulton's miserly
bowling attack of Craig Musty and Johnny Gardiner gave little opportunities
for the visiting team to score runs on a good playing surface. Beese was
the first out fishing for a wider delivery and taking an edge. Wicket Keeper
Ian Musty however did the hard work diving across in front of 1st slip to
take an excellent catch. Denney followed soon after being clean bowled by
Craig Musty. Bond and P Coleman then produced something of a comeback, but
tight bowling particularly from Johnny Gardiner who ended with just 20 runs
from his 10 overs, kept the run rate low. Steve Nash came in for some punishment
as Bond and Coleman tried to push up the run rate. Richard Blythewood took
over from Gardiner and kept up the good work. He eventually bowled Bond
on 49. Hilton was smartly stumped by Ian Musty after advancing down the
track. George Cook then bowled P Scott for 8. Craig Musty then returned
to the attack and he and Blythewood ensured that Rodmarton could not push
up their total towards the end of the innings.

In reply Poulton started confidently enough keeping the run rate ticking
along between 3 and 4 an over. Neil Moss was deceived by the slower delivery
from Beese, only to be replaced by Ian Musty, who had just returned from
University. Ian struggled with his timing of the ball, but showed that he
had not lost his eye for the ball notching up a patient 29 not out. Graham
Vinnicombe was second out for 41, but despite a difficult season so far,
Poulton still looked confident of taking revenge on the early season defeat
by Rodmarton. Jack Blades looked good for his 14, hitting 2 fours on the
way, the second a classic square drive. He was replaced by Steve Nash, with
12 overs to go and Poulton still requiring 57 runs to win. Steve opened
his account with 6 over mid-off and followed up with 4 fours and 2 further
6's in his quick fire 39 not out. The winning runs were scored by Nash hitting
the ball over mid wicket for his 3rd 6 of the game and Poulton ended up
winners with just over 4 overs to spare with 6 wickets in hand.
