Foot & Mouth Cricket Chaos
Due to the outbreak of Foot & Mouth disease the County League
have declared this season to be a Non-Promotion/Non-Relegation season.
1st Team Skipper Andy James said yesterday, "Obviously we are disappointed as I felt
we could continue where we left off last season and gain promotion to Division Three, but
there is not much we can do about it except keep up the high standards that we set
ourselves last season." Andy also stressed that Graham Vinnicombe will require
support from everyone to get the 2nd Eleven established.

Wilf Gillman
As most of you are aware, Wilf died very suddenly a couple of weeks
ago. I (Mark Greener) had the privelege to have known Wilf for over 20 years during
my time playing cricket at both Cirencester and Poulton. He was a very popular
person, always smiling and having a joke and never short of a story or two. It came
as no surprise to see the large number of people who came to pay their last respects at
his funeral as he was a good friend to many of us. I know he had an enjoyable time
at Poulton and actually said to me recently how much he enjoyed it out at Englands and the
family atmosphere. He did a tremendous job umpiring for us and of course it made
life easier for the players not having to 'stand in' as is the case at many clubs today.
Our thoughts go out to all his family, I know EVERYONE at Poulton Cricket Club will
miss him dearly.
Annual Dinner Dance venue confirmed
During the March committee meeting it was decided to
use the Stratton House Hotel as the venue for the 2001 Dinner & Dance. After
evaluating other options it was felt that the lower ticket cost and longer bar extension
would be more appealing to our members than some of the other venues investigated.
The actual date has yet to be confirmed but the month of October has been earmarked
as per usual.
Sightscreen Arrives
The new sightscreen has been constructed and is
ready for action. Costing £1000 (money kindly donated by Motorola amongst others),
the design is not too dissimilar from the previous sightscreen but is slightly bigger
(hopefully easier to push into position).
Skittles Evening Successful
The recently held Skittles Evening at the Falcon
raised a total of £185 for the club. The Committee would like to thank
"Sharpie's Angels" for their efforts as well as all the people who sold the
tickets and Trina from the Falcon for another superb buffet.
Availability for Games
Please give Steve Willard your availability as early
as possible. This is to ensure both Graham and Jammer can have plenty of time to
select the teams.
Many Thanks
Editor, Mark Greener.
