Poulton were in the hunt for the CDCA Division 1 title when they overcame Bibury at Englands in August 1998.  The Standard said:

"Poulton produced their most productive batting display of the season on Saturday, scoring a most impressive 254-6 against Bibury.
    After winning the toss Poulton elected to bat and on a fast track Russell and Voaden knuckled down to score 87 before Voaden was bowled by Harrison.
    Nick Russell - untroubled by the Bibury attack - was only removed by injury on 74 which broght in-form Sollis to the crease with Shaw.
    With 20 overs remaining Martin Sollis looked to increase the already excellent run rate scoring a superb 49, which included two towering sixes into the car park.
   Shaw batted sensibly for his 26 and skipper James hit a quick 28 to reach their best total of the season.
    Poulton were aware they still needed all Bibury's wickets, but credit must be given to the Bibury baysmen who, although chasing a massive score, still played positively.
    Mark Wright bowled a fast, tight line removing three Bibury batsmen whilst at the other end Poulton's ever-improving Willard picked up four wickets himself.
    Smith and James came on at the death to finish the job for a much needed 20-point victory.
    Although Russell's innings was faultless, man-of-the-match must go to Steve Willard for an excellent bowling display."
