About
Poulton Cricket Club
Where is Poulton?
Poulton is a pretty Cotswold village in Gloucestershire,
approximately five miles from the Roman town of Cirencester. It is not, as some
people believe, anywhere near Bristol. The club play at 'Englands' in the heart of
the village and the ground is often used for area representative matches, thanks mainly to
its carefully prepared wicket and wide open outfield.
How long has Poulton CC existed?
Poulton was formed in 1891 and played at the
Poulton Priory for nearly 90 years before moving to their present home in 1979.
Poulton is known for being one of the friendliest clubs in the area and the
tradition of playing against other local villages stretches back over three different
centuries.
Are Poulton CC any good?
It was the first winner of the newly formed Cirencester &
District League back in 1987 and the club is now going through perhaps the most successful
period of its 111 year history, both on and off the field. Plans for a new pavillion
are in the advanced planning stages and the 12-strong committee works tirelessly to ensure
that all areas of the club run smoothly. The club has two Saturday league teams, one
Sunday friendly team and a midweek league and cup side. The Saturday 1st XI joined
the Gloucestershire County League in 1999 and has just won two successive promotions, both
as champions, so will play in Division 3 of the GCL in 2002. They will be aiming to
catch up with bigger local town teams such as Fairford, Cirencester and Tetbury in the
next couple of years. The newly reformed 2nd XI finished in a respectable mid-table
position in Division 3 of the Cirencester & District League in 2001 and hopes are high
for the coming season. The midweek side came runners-up in the Stroud & Swindon
Knockout Cup of 2001, losing out to a strong Cirencester team at The Park in the final.

Anything else I should know?
Joan's teas are the best in the county, top beer and tucker
can be had at the Falcon Inn only 200 yards away, Postman Pat once opened our annual fete
and Judith Hann (Tomorrow's World) is our most famous fan.
